Equivocal: a subject to two or more interpretations and usually used to mislead or confuse, of uncertain nature or classification.. shaky, hivi hivi, meh.
Dubitable: open to doubt or question, doubtful, more at doubt, debatable.
First for the Jew, then for the gentile.
” for i am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for all mankind. First for the jew, then for the Gentile.”
Recently i started going through a study on romans, and no..( addressed to the ladies..) i’m not talking about romance, not saying that i’m not roman-tic, but i’m i not studying the romans? i just justified myself on two tiers. lol
Anyway, i found it quite interesting that throughout the first two chapters, paul repeats these phrase of words 3 times : First for the Jew then for the Gentile. ( chapter 1:16, 2:9 & 2:10)
If you have any vague idea as i do about the customs of the days that paul used to live in, i could assume it was more like the berlin wall, only that there was no wall but a segregation had been established. an apartheid, a colonial-like sort of era was in rule where the jews were considered superior to other races in Israel. in fact, Israel was/is/still a predominantly Jewish nation. I’d also like to assume that whatever did set them apart from the rest was mainly circumcision, and as i’d let my imagination wander, the sure definition of robust manhood: the hirsute of the chin appendage (beard), forehead and hair clothed with a turban (skull-candy, literally) that i believe used to rival the osama-s of our day. Cause yeah, i watched those Jesus movies as a kid, and if you did too, you’ll get the drift.
God Gave Them over to : free will.
Paul describes in chapter 2: 20 certain aspects of God: – His eternal power and divine nature, which have been clearly seen being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
To further expound on this, God is Creator. everything around us is created. So really if you’re looking for evidence that God exists, look around you. How else does each and everything occur independently yet fully dependent on each other? think about it.. fish born in a lake winds up on your dinner table that you may have the energy to live and see another day? = GOD.
And in the wake of all this surpassing power and divine nature.. 1:25, 1:27 & 1:29.
Why? because in 1:21, paul says for although THEY knew God, They neither glorified Him AS GOD nor gave thanks TO HIM. Seriously, it’s like knowing all the answers to an exam and you still choose to fail it. WOW!!
THEY gave in to their
a. sinful desires – They exchanged the truth for a lie, they worshiped & served created things
b. Shameful lusts – Homosexuality, lesbianism, LUST!,Porn, sex for recreational purposes.
c. Depraved Minds – full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, gossip, slander, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, boastful, disobeying parents, senseless, faithless, heartless.. ruthless…
And in all this, God gave them over to.
Yeah, so why, is God, who is powerful, made us in his own image, who is pure.. wish this upon us? thing is it can all be traced back to the first sin. And the wrath of God which was evident in the judgment given to both adam and eve. And since adam, was warned by God that the tree in the middle of the garden would bring forth the ability to know right or wrong : which if you think about it is free will.
what is free will? in the simplest of all terms.. the ability to read this particular statement waiting for the full stop so that in your mind you subconsciously breathe and sigh *sigh* as you wait for the sentence to actually end only to realize that the end. Is nigh . Yes, you have read that in free will.
Here comes the Jew, all dressed in turban.. coupled with a beard and a staff if he’s old. enough.
” now if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship with God 18: if you know His will and approve of what is superior because you have been instructed by the law, 19 If you are convinced that you are a guide to the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth – 21 You then who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you not steal? “
God’s name is Blasphemed.
I would liken this Jew to the modern day Christian. Of whom I’ve found many a qualm with. That we have been reduced to people who are merely ‘upholding’ the law and not living it. That our fellowship is just the gathering of believers in a hall or church caring less about what we do in private. Only away from ‘judging eyes’ do we freely and reluctantly give in to our sinful desires, our shameful lusts and depraved minds.
We short circuit ourselves, we do not set examples for others to follow, we are Christians cultivating sin. We blaspheme God.
Unknowingly and ‘knowingly’ we stand ashamed, of the Gospel not fully comprehending the power of God, his wrath and judgment that does not show favoritism (rom 2:11.) And Paul says it raw & in the clear, God pass judgment first for the ‘Jew’, then for the gentile.
i say this because i have struggled with various issues occasionally dealing with lust, porn and even turning agnostic at one point. I was a God hater. I was faithless, selfish, liar i was a sinner.. a superficial non-pious Christian. Unknowingly and knowingly I blasphemed God.
